November 20th, KOMOJU hosted a joint tech meetup with Tokyo Rust — and it was a great night full of learning, curiosity, and great energy.
Our speaker Robin Schroer (Staff Engineer, KOMOJU) delivered a 45-minute deep dive on:
Tracing Rust at Scale
— from fundamentals, distributed tracing, Datadog agent design, semantic tagging, to practical ecosystem gaps & how KOMOJU built tooling like komoju-datadog to simplify Rust observability.
It sparked lots of meaningful discussion around:
- Real-world distributed observability challenges
- The maturity of Rust tooling in production environments
- Tracing APIs, context propagation, and where things still feel “early stage”
💬 Comments from participants:
“I should really look into tracing.”
“Observability is essential for production systems.”
“The talk made me rethink which tracing libraries I use.”
“Enthusiasm of Rust engineers was great.”
✨ Thank you to everyone who joined — engineers, Rust enthusiasts, and curious learners.
We’ll continue organizing Rust meetup with Tokyo Rust again early next year, so stay tuned!
